Ok so hopefully by now you have a good sense of why using “clean” products is good idea. But you’re probably wondering “well that’s great but what am I supposed to use instead? Rainwater and leaves?” To which I say “No you ninny headed cotton muggin, I have a wonderful Green Beauty Starter Kit to keep you clean and happy” But if you do try rainwater and leaves…will you let me know how that goes? kinda sounds fun…

I wanted to start with products we use most frequently and that cover the most surface area. I tried to choose products that are at the same price point as products you get at a conventional drug store, which will make the transition seamless.

Body Moisturizer

You use this stuff alllllll over. In all the nooks and crannies. So you might want to consider starting here. Two great options:

Acure Organics Body Lotion

I have only used the Lemongrass and Argan oil scent. But I loved it. Super creamy and rich. A great every day product.

Everyone Body Oil

I have started to prefer oil over lotion, and this one I have repurchased multiple times. I have tried both Nourish and Cool Down. Cool Down is more refreshing and has a bright citrus and lemongrass fragrance. Nourish is more relaxing and has a lavender scent. I love both. I shake a few drops into my palms and apply right after the shower while my skin is still damp. It feels great to apply!

Body Wash

Weleda is a solid brand. They know their stuff, since they have been around since 1921! I have tried this body wash in both the Rose and Citrus fragrances. Both are super creamy and moisturizing. Perfect for winter time.

Shampoo and Conditioner

Acure Shampoo and Conditioner

Acure again for the win. This brand never disappoints. And they are so affordable!

I have tried other shampoos and conditioners that cost twice as much and I still come back to this stuff. The shampoo lathers like a traditional shampoo without the drying sulfates, the scents are divine and they make my hair feel super clean and bouncy. I switch back and forth between the Lemongrass and Argan Stem Cell which is clarifying and the Pure Mint and Echinacea Stem cell which is for volume. They also offer straightening and moisturizing formulas.

Deodorant is usually a product that people have a hard time with when switching to green. For me, it took a lot of trial and error before I found one that truly worked. Hopefully I did that work so you don’t have to but that said, everyone’s body chemistry is different, so what works for me miiiight not work for you.

Meow Meow Tweet Deodorant

This stuff has been life changing. It’s the first natural deodorant that has reallllly worked. Not…sorta kinda works…but kinda makes you smell like a moldy towel at the end of the day works…. I’m talking like get your nose up on in there, because there are only good things to be smelled. It’s a wee bit more than you are probably used to spending on deodorant but it lasts for-like-ever. I got my current jar this summer and it’s still going strong. I use the baking soda free version because any time I have tried using deo’s with baking soda in the formula, my pits were like “uh uh girlfriendddd” and turned red and angry.  Again everyone’s different, so hopefully you wont have that problem.

You probably noticed I get a lot of these items from Vitacost. While it’s not the best designed site, I love it because they have amazing prices, fast shipping, and on top of that usually have some sort of sale or promo going on at all times. If you plan on buying any products from Vitacost you can click this referral link for $10 off

I hope this gives you a good starting point for your transition to the green side. Keep in mind that you you don’t have to go into your bathroom and throw out every single dirty product you have. But as you run out of a product, you can then choose a green product to replace it.

What green products are you adding into your routine this year?!
